Scrivener Hill
(Funded by ACT Environment Grants)
Scrivener Hill in O’Malley is a rocky outcrop that currently is infested with a variety of woody weeds and ephemeral and enduring grassland weeds. The environment of this park deters most weed control methods, so the aim is to eventually shade-out these weeds. This will eventually dramatically reduce infestation of these weed species into the adjacent Yellow box / Redgum woodland of the Mt Mugga Mugga Reserve. The park will also provide a native vegetation and habitat link between the Mt. Mugga Mugga Reserve and reserves in adjacent suburbs and a lookout over much of western Canberra.
The project components include:
- • Ground preparation for planting by a suitably equipped bobcat or backhoe.
• 2 planting days for Isaacs Ridge/ Mt Mugga Mugga Park Care group (IRMMM);
• 500 native trees and shrubs planted and maintained;
• A lookout potentially including a yellow box log seat;
• Signage acknowledging contributors to the project and recognising the efforts of Charles Scrivener in the development of Canberra;
• An ‘opening’ event on completion of the project.
